Day 5 in Stillwater, Okla. saw the Gophers drop in the main draw doubles final.

STILLWATER, OKLA. – The University of Minnesota tennis team competed at the ITA Central Regional Championships at Oklahoma State from Oct. 13-17. The tournament consisted of doubles play and singles play throughout the five day event. Overall, the Gophers went 8-5 in doubles play and 11-9 in singles play.

Newcomers Anet Koskel, a freshman from Estonia and Zoey Weil, a transfer student from the University of Washington made a run for the Gophers during the five day event. The duo won back-to-back matches on day four of the tournament to advance to the main draw doubles final.

The Gopher pairing were ranked No. 12 in the main doubles bracket and overcame No. 8 duo Emma Staker and Alexandra Pisareva of Oklahoma to secure a spot in the final. Koskel and Weil fell 3-6, 2-6 to their No. 2 competitors Angie Oby Kajura and Chie Kezoka of Iowa State. 

The main draw doubles final concluded the five day stretch in Stillwater, Okla. for The Maroon and Gold.

On the Docket

Minnesota will travel to San Diego, Calif., to compete in the San Diego Invitational from Nov. 11-13.
