Gophers Tame Huskies in Series Opener

Four first-period goals propelled the Gophers to their fifth-straight win to open the season.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. ā The No. 2 Gopher Women's hockey team continued its hot start to the season with a 4-2 win over St. Cloud State at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Friday afternoon.

Minnesota (5-0-0) started strong yet again with its third game scoring inside the opening two minutes. Abbey Murphy, Abigail Boreen, Grace Zumwinkle and Taylor Heise all lit the lamp in the first period to post the Maroon and Gold's highest-scoring opening period of the season. St. Cloud State (2-5-0) scored two goals late in the second period to make things interesting heading into the final frame. The Gophers shut down the Huskies in the third period, holding the home team to one shot through the first 18 minutes to secure the victory.
The reigning WCHA Goaltender of the Week, Skylar Vetter, stopped 20 shots for her third win of the season. Jojo Chobak started in goal for the Huskies, stopping 32 shots in her second defeat this season.
