Gophers End Regular Season with Rocky's Run

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota cross country team saw both its men and women complete the 2022 cross country regular season at Rocky's Run Saturday morning at Les Bolstad Golf Course. The open 6K meet is held annually in memory of Gopher runner Rochelle "Rocky" Racette.
The top five women's spots belonged to the Maroon and Gold with Zoie Dundon taking first in a time of 22:55. Elsa Bergman was the runner-up in a time of 22:57 followed by Lila Branchaw (23:24), Sydney Kretlow (23:35) and Anna Lien (23:39) in third through fifth, respectively.
The men were led by true freshman Shane Griepentrog who took the crown in a time of 18:32 followed by fellow freshman Griffin Ward in 18:33. Tanner Klumph (18:33), Dan VanAcker (18:59) and Owen Lindseth (19:28) rounded out the top five on the men's side.
Rocky's Run was founded in 1981 to honor former Gopher runner Rochelle "Rocky" Racette, who died in a car accident that fall at the age of 22. While at the University of Minnesota, Racette was an All-American in track & field and cross country and champion of the Big Ten and Drake Relays 5,000-meter titles. The annual race is staged by the many members of the running community who knew and loved her. Racette's legacy lives on through the memory of those who knew her, and through Rocky's Run and the scholarship for which it raises money.

Following Saturday's competition the Gophers will be headed to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the 2022 Big Ten Cross Country Championships. Minnesota ran at Ann Arbor earlier this season at the Michigan Preview where both the men and women finished fourth of six teams. After the Big Ten Championships the team will compete in Columbia, Mo., at the NCAA Midwest Regionals.
