Minnesota Ties Illinois, 2-2

CHAMPAIGN-URBANA – After two late goals from Illinois, the University of Minnesota soccer team ended the regular season in a 2-2 draw against the Fighting Illini at Demerjian Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Golden Gophers (8-7-3, 4-5-2 Big Ten) leave Illinois (7-7-4, 4-4-2 Big Ten) with a berth in the Big Ten Tournament and will face No. 6 Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 30. Time and television information will be released at a later time.
The Maroon & Gold were led by McKenna Buisman, who tallied two shots on goal. Four other Gophers tabbed a shot, while Sophia Boman and Sadie Harper were the finishers.
"Certainly disappointed with how we closed the game," said head coach Erin Chastain. "I don't think it was our best day. We'll use this week to prepare for a really good Michigan State team on Sunday. It's going to be a huge test for our group and I'm excited to see us step up for it."
Minnesota's first goal came from Boman in the 20th minute. "Olympico" style, Boman curved the ball from the left corner flag past the keeper. Scoring her fifth goal this season, Boman leads the Golden Gophers in points with 15.
Sadie Harper extended the Gophers' lead two minutes later. Positioned on the left side of the box, Khyah Harper passed to Sophia Romine, who laid a ball off to Harper on the right side. Harper finished using the outside of her right foot.
After starting the second half ahead, 2-0, Illinois would get on the board thanks to a penalty kick with 15 minutes left on the clock. The equalizer goal came in the 88th minute from Makala Woods, who got past Minnesota's backline to finish.
