MINNEAPOLIS – Luisamariana Mesones has been recognized as this week's Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, marking the second week in a row of her receiving this award. Mesones rewrote the history books once again at the Evie Odom Invitational on Sunday, breaking the school's 18-hole record with a score of eight-under par (62) in the third round, the same record she broke exactly a week ago. She finished as the runner-up of the tournament.
"This is an incredible honor for our program and for Mariana," said coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "To be named B1G player of the week one time is a huge honor, to earn back-to-back is amazing. This is a testament to Mariana's amazing attitude and work ethic, and the push she gets from her teammates."
The freshman recorded a three-round score of 73-68-62—203 in the third collegiate tournament of her career, breaking the University of Minnesota women's 18-hole, 36-hole, and 54-hole records. On her path to earning the title of Evie Odom Invitational runner-up, Mesones collected the most birdies of anyone in the tournament, ending with a grand total of 15.
The back-to-back B1G Player of the Week resumes action alongside the Gophers in the Sunflower Invitational on Oct. 17.
