Murphy, Vetter Honored as WCHA Monthly Award Winners

Sophomore's Abbey Murphy and Skylar Vetter each take home their first WCHA monthly award after a dominant month of October.
MINNEAPOLIS – Sophomore forward Abbey Murphy and goaltender Skylar Vetter were both named WCHA monthly award winners on Tuesday afternoon after strong performances throughout the month of October.
Abbey Murphy earned her first WCHA monthly honor of her career after a dominant month of October. In her first eight games after returning from the U.S. Olympic National Team, Murphy tallied a team-high eight goals and 14 points. Her 1.75 points per game and four power-play goals are both tops in the WCHA. The Evergreen Park, Ill., native has three multi-goal games, five multi-point games and points in seven-of-eight games this season. Her .308 shooting percentage is tops on the Gophers and the WCHA (minimum five shots).
Skylar Vetter earned her first-career WCHA Goaltender of the Month honor after being named goaltender of the week twice in the month of October. Vetter has posted a 5-0-1 record with a 1.35 GAA and a .935 Sv%. The Lakeville, Minn., native has appeared in seven-of-eight games this season and allowed two goals or fewer in six of them. She picked up her second career shutout at RV Minnesota State on Oct. 14. Vetter is the first Gopher to win goaltender of the month since Lauren Bench in November of 2020.
No. 1 Minnesota (7-0-1) will face No. 5 Minnesota Duluth (7-3-0) in a home series this weekend. Puck drop is slated for 6:00 pm on Friday and 2:00 pm on Saturday.
