The overtime win was the first for Minnesota since 2019.
MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 1 Gopher women's hockey team took down the No. 5 Minnesota Duluth 3-2 in overtime at the Ridder Arena on Friday evening.Â
Â
Minnesota (8-0-1) got on the board early with back-to-back goals from Ella Huber and Lizi Norton in the second and seventh minutes of play. Minnesota Duluth (7-4-0) cut the Gophers' lead in half five minutes into the second when Gabbie Krause scooped up a rebound and found the back of the net.Â
Â
The Bulldogs tied the game early in the third on a power play opportunity as Nina Jobst-Smith netted a goal 3:03 into the period. Both teams skated evenly for the remainder of the third, forcing the Gophers' second straight overtime game. Taylor Heise wasted no time, scoring the game-winner for the Gophers just 15 seconds into the first overtime period.
Skylar Vetter started in goal for Minnesota making 27 saves in her sixth win of the year. Emma Soderberg started in goal for the Bulldogs, stopping 29 shots.Â

"A big overtime win here tonight," said head coach Brad Frost. "A great first period for us coming out of the gates. To Duluth's credit, they found a way to tie it up in the third, but a nice job by our team to get the win in overtime. It's fun hockey. It's hard, it's tough, and it's the way we all like it."
