Gophers Fall to Cornhuskers in Lincoln

MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Minnesota (12-16, 5-11 B1G) dropped a road test to Nebraska 93-70 on Sunday afternoon at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Sara Scalia led the Gophers on the offensive end with 22 points while Kadi Sissoko added 14 off the bench.Â
Early on it was Alanna Micheaux who was hitting for the Gophers on the offensive end, scoring each of the first two buckets. Laura Bagwell Katalinich followed with back-to-back makes, but a Nebraska 6-0 in the late stage of the quarter gave the Cornhuskers a 23-16 advantage after 10 minutes at Pinnacle Bank Arena.Â
Scalia continued to be the focal point of the Gophers offense after hitting back-to-back threes at the end of the first by scoring the first five in the second quarter. Minnesota was as close as three points in the quarter, but a pair of MiCole Cayton threes late in the half helped the hosts to retain their seven-point lead into the locker room.Â
The third quarter saw Nebraska push its lead to as much as 24 with the Cornhuskers shooting 11-of-17 during the period and outscoring Minnesota by 16. Nebraska's lead grew to as much as 30 before the end of the game, but Minnesota was able to outscore the Cornhuskers in the final 10 minutes 23-22 with Sissoko scoring seven.Â

Minnesota's final week of the regular season will begin with Senior Day against Illinois (6-16, 1-10 B1G) on Feb. 24. That matchup with the Illini can be seen on B1G+ starting at 7 p.m. and can be heard on KFAN+.Â
