Gopher Sports sat down with Dalila Said to discuss her start in tennis, life at the University of Minnesota on and off the court, and more. One of the most senior members of the Gophers, Said is playing in her third spring season in Minneapolis. Originally from Cairo, Egypt, she transferred from Georgia Tech following her freshman year. Her established international youth career has brought her to Minnesota, where she has thrived as a member of the Gophers. Said dives into many topics in her discussions with Gopher Sports below:
Gopher Sports: How did you get your start with tennis?
Dalila Said: My mom enrolled me at the sports club we had close to our house.
GS: Do you have any young memories with tennis? When did you know you loved the sport?
DS: I started playing other sports along with tennis, and slowly I started dropping the sports that I enjoyed less and eventually stuck with just tennis by the age of 10.
GS: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
DS: I chose Minnesota because of the great academics as well as athletics. I also really liked the campus and the girls on the team.
GS: What field of Study are you in; why?
DS: I am studying business and marketing. Most of my family work in business so I was always interested in getting into the field and knowing more about the career.
GS: Favorite memory so far this season?
DS: Spending time with the team and traveling with the girls has been my favorite so far.
GS: What hobbies do you have and enjoy doing in your free time?
DS: I enjoy spending time with friends and family, I love doing activities with people that I care about and enjoying their company.
