Taylor Heise, Abigail Boreen, Emily Brown, Madeline Wethington, Peyton Hemp, Ella Huber, and Emily Zumwinkle were named to the All-WCHA Teams on Thursday.
MINNEAPOLIS -- Seven Golden Gopher women's hockey student-athletes have been selected as 2021-22 All-WCHA Team honorees, presented by Sterling Trophy, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced on Thursday.
Senior forward Taylor Heise, the nation's leading scorer, was named to the All-WCHA First Team, and senior forward and linemate Abigail Boreen was named to the All-WCHA Second Team. Defenders Emily Brown and Madeline Wethington each landed a spot on the All-WCHA Third Team while freshmen forwards Peyton Hemp and Ella Huber and freshman defender Emily Zumwinkle each landed a spot on the WCHA All-Rookie Team.
Brown is named to her fourth All-WCHA Team after earning Second Team honors each of the past three seasons. Heise earned her third All-WCHA honor after being named to the Third Team in 2020 and the Rookie Team in 2018. Wethington is named to the All-WCHA Third Team for the second straight season, while Boreen earns her first honor following a career-high 52-point regular season campaign. Minnesota sees three rookies honored for the fourth time in program history and first since 2013.
"Congratulations to an outstanding group of All-WCHA honorees for their success on the ice this season," WCHA Commissioner Jennifer Flowers said. "In a league as deep and talented as the WCHA, earning All-WCHA honors is an impressive accomplishment."
WCHA Women's League member head coaches and assistant coaches vote for the All-WCHA Teams. The All-WCHA First, Second and Third Teams are determined by tabulating votes on a sliding 5-3-1 scale for First, Second and Third Team, respectively. The WCHA All-Rookie Team is determined by tabulating the number of votes each player receives.
