Scalia on Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota's guard Sara Scalia has been honored by the Big Ten for the second time this season, this time on the weekly honor roll, the conference office announced Monday. The Stillwater, Minn., native, helped Minnesota to two wins while scoring an average of 24.5 points per game and making 13 threes.

Scalia's 32-point performance against Penn State was paired with a 17-point outing against Illinois this past week, helping the Gophers win their final two regular season games and earn a first-round bye in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament. Scalia made a combined 13 threes, including eight in the game against Penn State. Those eight threes is the second time the junior has made at least eight threes in a game this season, the only Big Ten student-athlete to do so this season.

To go with her weekly outburst, Scalia has also been one of the most consistent scorers in the Big Ten this season. She's scored in double figures for 20 games in a row, the longest streak of her career. She's the only student-athlete in the league with over 100 threes made this season at 101, which is the second-most in a single season at Minnesota (tied with Carlie Wagner in 2017-18) and her 64 threes made in Big Ten play is the second most in program history just behind Rachel Banham's then-Big Ten record in 2015-16.

The conference honor is the third of the season for the Gophers, and second for Scalia. Alanna Micheaux secured a Freshman of the Week honor back on Dec. 6. For Scalia, it is the fourth time she has earned a weekly honor in her career. Scalia was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week twice during her rookie campaign and was the Big Ten Player of the Week earlier this season.

On the season Scalia leads the team with an average of 17.8 points per game. Her 42.6 percent from three is good enough for the fourth-best clip in the Big Ten this season and her 3.4 threes made per game is good enough for the second best rate in the conference.
