Heise, Hemp Garner WCHA Monthly Awards

Senior forward Taylor Heise and freshman forward Peyton Hemp were each named monthly conference award winners for the third time this season - setting new program records.
MINNEAPOLIS – Senior forward Taylor Heise and freshman forward Peyton Hemp were both named February WCHA monthly award winners on Tuesday afternoon. Heise and Hemp each earned their third monthly awards of the season.
Taylor Heise picked up her third WCHA Forward of the Month award, and second in a row, after recording 18 points (8g-10a) in eight February games. The senior forward posted a plus-16 rating with five multi-point and two multi-goal games. The Lake City, Minn., native had an incredible run to finish off the regular season and help Minnesota claim its 11th WCHA regular season title. Heise leads the nation in points (64), goals (28), and short-handed goals (5). In the month of February, she passed the 150 career-points mark and became the first Gopher to record 60 or more points in a single season since 2016-17. Minnesota's top-line center became the first Gopher to win the award three times in a single season since its inception in 2016-17.
Peyton Hemp became the first Gopher rookie to win WCHA Rookie of the Month three times in a single season after notching three goals and seven assists over eight games in February. Hemp, who leads the conference in points (32) and goals (12), posted her first multi-goal game on Feb. 4 against Bemidji State. The Andover, Minn., native has been a mainstay on the Gophers' second line and has taken only two penalties in 34 games-played. Hemp currently ranks second in the nation in points and fourth in goals among freshmen.
No. 1 Minnesota (28-7-1) will face eighth-ranked Minnesota Duluth (24-10-1) in the semifinals of the WCHA Final Faceoff at 1 p.m. CT on Saturday at Ridder Arena.
