All-Big Ten performer had two sacks and forced one fumble in premier showcase game

Former University of Minnesota standouts Boye Mafe and Daniel Faalele participated in the Senior Bowl today. The former Gophers put on a show as they helped the National Team to a 20-10 victory against the American Team.

Mafe was simply dominant in the game and saw his NFL Draft stock skyrocket. The Golden Valley, Minn., native was in the backfield all day and recorded three tackles for loss, two sacks and forced one fumble, as he was named the National Team Player of the Game.

Mafe, who was named All-Big Ten Second Team in 2021, played in 42 career games for the Gophers and made 87 tackles (59 solo), 19.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks (ranks ninth all-time in school history). He also forced three fumbles and broke up three passes during this collegiate career.

Faalele blocked for a National Team that passed for 217 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 114 yards. He did not line up at fullback – like he did against West Virginia in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl – but he did spike the football after a National touchdown. Baylor running back Abram Smith scored on a screen and then gave the football to Faalele who spiked it hard into the turf.

Faalele, who was named All-Big Ten First Team, started 31 of 34 career games at right tackle for the Gophers. Minnesota was 23-11 in games he competed in.
