Group Play Sees Gophers Excel and Advance

All 10 players with program ties representing three different countries have advanced to the quarterfinals.

MINNEAPOLIS – All 10 players with Golden Gopher women's hockey ties at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are moving on to the playoff round. Team USA, which features eight maroon and gold representatives, finished with a 3-1-0 record in group play. Through four group play games, nine of ten Gophers have recorded at least a point. In her third Olympic games, forward Amanda Kessel leads the Red, White, and Blue with six points (2g-4). 

Olympic Firsts
Group play saw four players with program ties make their Olympic debuts as Grace Zumwinkle, Abbey Murphy, Nelli Laitinen, and Josefin Bouveng played prominent roles in their first Olympic Games. Each newcomer tallied their first-career Olympic point with Zumwinkle, Laitinen, and Bouveng recording their first-career goals as well. Kelly Pannek, who is participating in her second Olympic Games, tallied her first career goal in USA's victory over the ROC.
