Stanke leads all catchers nationally with seven home runs

MINNEAPOLIS - Gopher Baseball senior Chase Stanke has been named to the Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year Watch List, as announced by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission on Thursday.

The watch list for the award, which is presented annually to the top Division-I catcher by the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, consists of 76 catchers. Semifinalists will be announced on May 9, with finalists being revealed on June 7 during the College World Series. All finalists will then be invited to Wichita for the awards ceremony on June 29, where the winner will be announced.

He's one of just four Big Ten catchers to make the list.

Named last year to the Buster Posey National Catcher of the Year Watch List, Stanke is off to a phenomenal start to the 2022 season. He ranks fifth in the country and leads all catchers in home runs (7), while ranking fourth in the Big Ten in slugging percentage (.808) and 10th in RBI (13). Stanke also leads the Big Ten in total bases (42).

He holds a career fielding percentage of .987, tallying 653 putouts and 90 assists compared to just 10 errors.
