MINNEAPOLIS -- Jamison Battle led all scorers with 20 points as the Gophers (13-16, 4-16 Big Ten) fell to the Northwestern Wildcats 62-75 in their regular season finale matchup at Welsh-Ryan Arena Sunday evening.
Northwestern (14-15, 7-13 Big Ten) did the majority of their damage in the first ten minutes of the game, opening the game on a 29-9 run while shooting 10-17 from the field and 5-8 from deep. The Wildcats kept the lead at 20 heading into the half 46-26. Minnesota closed the gap slightly in the second half, jumping within eight after a Sean Sutherlin three-pointer made it a 55-63 game with 4:14 left, but a Pete Nance layup and Northwestern shooting 10-14 from the stripe over the final four minutes ultimately proved the Gophers' comeback attempts unsuccessful.
Sophomore Jamison Battle led Minnesota in the scoring column, tallying 20 points and six rebounds on the night, while senior Payton Willis added 16 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. The Wildcats were led by Pete Nance with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
