This is the third time in her career that she has been a finalist for this prestigious award
University of Minnesota senior Lexy Ramler has been named one of four finalists for the prestigious Honda Sport Award for Gymnastics, the Collegiate Women Sports Awards (CWSA) announced on Tuesday. Ramler is a three-time Honda Award nominee, having also been nominated at the end of the 2021 and 2020 seasons.
The Honda Sport Award is considered "the best of the best in collegiate athletics" and is presented to the top women in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports including gymnastics. The finalists for the gymnastics award are determined by a panel of coaches and experts from the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
The winner will be announced in the upcoming weeks following a vote from administrators from more than 1,000 NCAA schools. The winner of the gymnastics award will then become a finalist for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the prestigious 2022 Honda Cup.
Including Ramler, this year's finalists are Trinity Thomas (Florida), Jade Carey (Oregon State) and Sunisa Lee (Auburn).
Ramler recently completed her fifth and final year of collegiate gymnastics. She finished the NCAA Championships sixth in the all-around and led the Gophers to a sixth-place finish as a team, which is Minnesota's best showing ever. Ramler also tied for second on the bars and tied for fourth on the beam at the NCAA Championships. She earned NCAA Championships First Team All American honors on bars, beam and the all-around. Ramler was also named WCGA First Team All-America on the beam and the all-around and Second Team on the bars earlier this year. Ramler, who is the most decorated gymnast in school history, was also named First Team All-Big Ten this year and was recognized as the NCAA Region 2 Gymnast of the Year.
