MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota women's basketball head coach Lindsay Whalen announced Monday the addition of Destinee Oberg to the Gophers program. Oberg is a 6'3 center from Burnsville, Minn., who spent her first three seasons at the University of Arkansas.

Oberg played in 39 games in her three seasons with the Razorbacks. She averaged 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds per game in 5.8 minutes per game while shooting 47.5 percent from the floor.

"Today we are excited to announce the signing of Destinee Oberg to our program," head coach Lindsay Whalen said. "Destinee is someone who will represent our program's values in the classroom, on the court as well as in our community. Offensively, Destinee has the ability to finish through traffic at the rim as well as find her teammates as an exceptional passer. Defensively her communication, footwork and length at 6-3 adds to our interior defense. I am thrilled she has the opportunity to come back to her home state and compete in the Big Ten."
In her most recent season in Fayetteville, Oberg played 19 games and aided a team that reached the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season. She scored a career-high 10 points against Central Arkansas during the non-conference portion of the season and added a 10-rebound performance against Arkansas-Little Rock during her junior campaign.

In her prep career Oberg was rated by Prospects Nation as a 4.5-star prospect, the No. 6 post player and No. 38 overall recruit in the nation for the 2019 class. As a sophomore, Oberg and the Academy of Holy Angels played to a third-place finish at the state tournament. She averaged 16.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.1 steals per game that season.

Oberg becomes the first transfer to join the Golden Gopher program this offseason. With Oberg joining the Gophers seven of the eight current roster spots on the 2022-23 roster hail from the Land of 10,000 Lakes.
