Gophers Complete Final Round of Season at Big Ten Championship

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The University of Minnesota women's golf team completed the 2021-2022 Big Ten Championship on Sunday, finishing the tournament with a three-round score of 299-301-309—909 (+57). The Gophers wrapped up their season at the Fox Chapel Golf Club in Pittsburgh, Pa. by placing 12th in the conference tournament.
In her final collegiate event, senior Geraldine Wong led the Maroon and Gold with a combined score of 74-76-75—225. Also in her last event as a Gopher was senior Joanne Free, who concluded her college career with a three-round score of 76-74-79—229.

In her final round Wong scored four-over par (74), which included three birdies on the front nine. Her strong third round propelled her to a finish of tied for 38th. Wong was steady throughout the weekend, with all of her round scores coming within two strokes of each other.
Junior Grace Curran came in second on the Minnesota leaderboard, posting a final tournament score of 77-72-79—228. For the tournament Curran totaled seven birdies, with six coming in the first two rounds. She ended the tournament in a tie for 53rd place.
Free concluded her college career with a third-round score of eight-over par (79). She had three birdies in each of the first two rounds, leading her to a tied-for-55th finish.
Freshman Alexis McMurray wrapped up her second tournament of the spring with a final tournament score of 75-79-80—234. She finished in a tie for 68th after totaling five birdies in the final two rounds.
Ending the tournament in a tie for 73rd was junior Leah Herzog, whose tournament score was 80-80-76—236. Herzog finished the tournament on a high note, finishing with her lowest round score in the final round.
Junior Emma Carpenter finished the Big Ten Championship with a total score of 74-82-81—237, which was good for a tie for 75th at the end of the day on Sunday.
Claiming the 2021-2022 Big Ten Championship title was Michigan, after finishing the tournament with a score of 285-281-291—857 (+5). Their in-state rival Michigan State was the runner up, trailing the winner by four strokes.
