Gophers in the Pros: 2021-22 Season Recap

Due to the 2022 Winter Olympics, only eleven Gophers played professionally across the three leagues during the 2021-22 season.
MINNEAPOLIS – Eleven Golden Gopher women's hockey alumnae competed professionally during the 2021-22 season across the PHF, PWHPA, and European leagues. Due to the 2022 Winter Olympic Games, six players with program ties that played professionally in 2020-21 opted to represent their countries.Â
Eight Golden Gopher alumnae competed in the Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) – all with the Minnesota Whitecaps. Sydney Baldwin, Winnie Brodt-Brown, Chelsey Brodt-Rosenthal, Amanda Leveille, Meghan Lorence, Patti Marshall, Nicole Schammel, and Alex Woken all donned the black and blue in 2021-22. Marshall, who completed her first season with the Whitecaps, led all alumnae with seven points in 20 games. Woken, who also competed in her first season with the club, notched a goal and an assist over 20 games. Rosenthal-Brodt joined Marshall and Woken as the only alumnae to play all 20 games. The Minnesota Whitecaps finished the season with a 6-13-1 record and a semifinal defeat in the PHF playoffs.Â
Recent graduates Sydney Scobee and Sarah Potomak participated in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association (PWHPA). Scobee ('20) played in goal for Team Adidas in the Minnesota region while Potomak ('20) represented Team Scotiabank in the Calgary region. The pair competed in five showcase events throughout the 2021-22 Secret Dream Gap Tour.Â
Noora Räty began the 2021-22 season with HPK Kiekonaiset in the Naisten Liiga (NSML) in Finland before moving to the KRS Vanke Rays in the Zhenskaya Hockey League (ZhHL) in China/Russia. While in Finland, Räty posted a 7-5 record with a 1.75 goals against average, .954 save-percentage, and two shutouts in 14 games.Â
