MINNEAPOLIS – Five University of Minnesota student-athletes have been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District Men's and Women's At-Large Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the organization announced on Thursday.
Representing the Maroon & Gold are Lindsay Eliasen (rowing), Taylor Heise (women's hockey), Ona Loper (gymnastics), Ben Meyers (men's hockey) and Lexy Ramler (gymnastics).
A native of Chanhassen, Minn., Eliasen has now earned Academic All-District honors for the fourth time as a member of the Gophers rowing program. The two-time team captain recently closed out the season as a First Team All-Big Ten selection for the Maroon & Gold after earning Second Team All-Big Ten honors a year ago. A computer science major working toward a graduate degree, Eliasen is a two-time CRCA National Scholar Athlete, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a three-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar (and is eligible for all three accolades again this year).
A kinesiology major from Lake City, Minn., Heise is a three-time WCHA All-Academic and two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. As a senior, the team captain won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award and was named a First Team All-American and First Team All-USCHO member. The WCHA Player of the Year led both the nation and the Gophers in points this season and ranks 14th in program history with 160 career points.
Loper is one of the best gymnasts to ever wear a Minnesota leotard and had a fantastic final season as a Gopher. Loper set or tied career highs on every event and in the all-around in 2022 and was named a finalist for the prestigious AAI Award. She tied Ramler for first in the all-around at the NCAA Regional Semifinal and won the NCAA Regional Final. Loper helped the Gophers advance to the NCAA Team Championship, where they finished a program-best sixth. She earned NCAA Championships Second Team All-America honors on bars and the all-around and was also named a WCGA First Team All-American on the vault and in the all-around. The epidemiology major from Bluffton, S.C., also received First Team All-Big Ten honors and was named Academic All-Big Ten.
A native of Delano, Minn., Meyers closed his collegiate career with one of the most notable seasons in program history – earning Minnesota's first Hobey Baker Award Hat Trick finalist honor since 2002 along with Big Ten Player of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten and Second Team All-America accolades. Additionally, the two-time Gophers captain represented the United States on the 2022 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team and scored a goal in his NHL debut with the Colorado Avalanche after leading the Gophers to the Big Ten regular-season crown and an NCAA Frozen Four appearance. Minnesota's leading scorer this year, Meyers majored in finance and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors twice in his career.
Ramler, who is the most decorated gymnast in Minnesota history, helped guide the Gophers to the NCAA Team Championships. Minnesota placed sixth as a team – its best finish ever – and Ramler finished sixth in the all-around. She earned NCAA Championships First Team All-American honors on bars, beam and the all-around and was named a WCGA First Team All-America on the beam and the all-around and Second Team on the bars. Ramler, who was a three-time Big Ten Gymnast of the Year in her career, was a finalist for the Honda Sport Award in 2022.
