Big Ten Names Zaltos Field Athlete of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt sophomore Kostas Zaltos has been honored by the Big Ten Conference for his hammer throw performances at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Zaltos tossed his new personal best throw in his final attempt 71.95m (236-0), moving him to the No. 2 spot in the nation this season. The mark also improves his mark on Minnesota's outdoor top 10 list where he was already at the second-best spot. Sean Donnelly holds the school record of 74.35m (243-11) back in 2016. Zaltos' series was one for the ages, putting down six-straight throws that were beyond 69-meters, which only 13 other student-athletes have gone beyond this season.
This week the University of Minnesota track and field team wraps up its regular season with a pair of local meets in the Twin Cities starting with the St. Thomas Tommie Twilight on May 4, and ending with the Hamline Meet of the Unsaintly on Friday, May 6.
