MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota women's track program completed its 2021-22 campaign with a trio of All-America honors on Saturday in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field. Shelby Frank earned the lone First Team honors while Bethany Hasz and Nyalaam Jok earned honorable mention nods.
Frank's effort came on her final attempt of the competition, propelling her from eighth to sixth with a mark of 54.87m (180-0). The discus competitors had to battle through rainy conditions, with Frank reaching the final with a second attempt mark of 54.18m (177-9). Frank's First Team All-America honor is the first for the sophomore, a year after she finished as a Second Team All-American in the same event. Frank's incredible year ends with not only the All-America finish but also the school record in the discus that she set in Baton Rouge in April.
The day started with true freshman Nyalaam Jok making her NCAA debut in the women's high jump. The Annandale, Minn., product cleared her opening height of 1.72m (5-7 3/4) to finish 20th overall and bring home the honorable mention distinction. Jok's incredible breakout season ends with her as the new high jump school record holder outdoors and a Big Ten silver medalist.
Minnesota's outdoor season was capped off with one last run from Gopher legend Bethany Hasz in the 5000m. Her 22nd overall finish earned her an honorable mention All-America nod in a time fo 16:12.58. For Hasz, the All-American distinction is her seventh of her historic career at the 'U', capturing honors in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Hasz leaves the program with multiple school records and a laundry list of accomplishments both on and off the track.
As a team the Golden Gophers finished 49th overall, and its the fourth-straight year the team has scored points at the national level outdoors.
