MINNEAPOLIS – Golden Gophers past, present and future are headed to Hungary to represent their home countries at the 19th FINA World Championships Budapest 2022, June 18 through July 3.
Sarah Bacon, who recently finished her sixth-year senior season at Minnesota, will compete in diving for the United States, while rising sophomore swimmer Bar Soloveychik is representing Israel and incoming freshman Viviana Del Angel Peniche is diving for Mexico.
A five-time NCAA champion, including on the 3-meter this past season, Bacon is scheduled to compete in two events for Team USA. First up for her is the 1-meter springboard on June 29, followed by the 3-meter springboard. The 3-meter prelims and semifinals will take place on July 1 with the finals set for the following day.
Del Angel Peniche, a native of Veracruz, Mexico, will be competing both individually and synchronized on platform. The 10-meter platform will hold prelims and semifinals on June 26 with the finals to follow on June 27. She is then scheduled to team up with Samantha Jimenez Santos on the 10-meter synchro on June 30.
