MINNEAPOLIS – After finishing fifth in the event last year, junior Grace Curran took first at the 2022 USGA Women's Amateur Qualifying at Victory Links Golf Course in Blaine, Minn. on Tuesday. With the victory, Curran has punched her ticket to the USGA Women's Amateur at Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash. on August 8-14.
Curran finished her one round of play with a score of three-under par (68), giving her a one-stroke lead at the end of the day. The New Lenox, Ill. native had just one bogey on the day, scoring par or better on 17 holes. Three of her four birdies came on the front nine, with the final one coming on hole 18. The next four golfers in the standings finished with scores of 69, which means her fourth and final birdie was an important one. This was the second year in a row that Curran finished with at least First Alternate honors, with her play on Tuesday securing the No. 1 finish.
Also competing on Tuesday were fellow juniors Leah Herzog and Emma Carpenter. After a playoff, Herzog fell just short of an alternate spot with a score of one-under (70). Carpenter finished the round with a final score of two-over par (73).
