QUICK KICKS
SERIES HISTORY – BAYLOR
This is the fourth all-time meeting between Minnesota and Baylor. The Gophers lead the series 2-0-1. In the most recent meeting, Minnesota defeated the Bears, 1-0, at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The win was the first of the Chastain era and the lone goal came from junior Sophia Boman in the fifth minute.
Prior to 2021, the Gophers last beat the Bears 3-0 in 1997 when they held a No. 23 ranking. In the same year, Minnesota won the 1997 Big Ten Championship and made their third-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
SERIES HISTORY – TCU
Sunday's match between the Gophers and Horned Frogs is only the third meeting between the teams. Minnesota leads the series 2-0, with wins coming during the 1996 and 1998 seasons. The Gophers won 6-0 in 1996 and 5-1 in 1998, respectively.
SCOUTING BAYLOR
Baylor enters its season against the Gophers coming off two-straight exhibition wins over LSU and UTSA. Against LSU, they put three goals away within the first 45 minutes of the half. Goals came from Kayla Ables, Maddie Algya, and Annika Fredell. The Tigers answered back with one goal in the 86th minute.
Baylor went on to defeat UTSA, 2-1. The Roadrunners got on the board in the second minute, but the Bears responded quickly. Ashlyn Merrill scored both goals in the 18th and 41st minutes to take the lead. The second half remained scoreless, while Baylor took the win.
SCOUTING No. 7 TCU
TCU will first open the 2022 season against fellow Big Ten foe, Wisconsin, prior to the match up against the Gophers.
In 2021, the Horned Frogs were crowned Big 12 regular season champions and tournament champions. They finished the season 19-2-3 with an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. After 110 minutes of play against Rutgers in the Sweet 16, TCU fell in penalty kicks 5-4.
BIG TEN PLAYERS TO WATCH
The Gophers had three student-athletes named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List, announced by the conference office Monday. Sophia Boman, Megan Plaschko and Izzy Brown were recognized. This is Boman's second time being named to the list, but a first for Plaschko and Brown.
