Gophers Wrap Up First Round of 2022-23 Campaign

LAKE ELMO -- The University of Minnesota women's golf team sits in 12th place after one round of play at the Annika Intercollegiate at The Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn. Senior Emma Carpenter led the way for Minnesota on day one, finishing the round with a score of two-over par (74).

After 18 holes, Virginia sits at the top of the leaderboard after posting a team score of four-under par (284). 

Quotable:
"It felt great to be back out competing again with the team," head coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "Although we got off to an uneasy start I'm proud of the way the team competed on the back 9. We know we need to clean up some errors and play smarter golf tomorrow."

Notable:
On holes 10 through 18 Carpenter had four birdies, lifting her to a 25th-place finish at the end of the opening round. 

In her first collegiate event, freshman Isabella McCauley registered two birdies and ended the round with a score of four-over par (76). She completes the first day of competition in a tie for 36th place.

Also playing in her first event for the Maroon and Gold, Luisamariana Mesones finished round one with a score of five-over par (77). The freshman sits in a tie for 45th place after 18 holes played.

Senior Leah Herzog had three birdies in the first round, placing her in a tie for 45th place. She also ended the round with a score of a score of five-over par (77).

Finishing the first round with a score of seven-over par (79) and rounding out the Gophers lineup was senior Grace Curran.

Minnesota will play the second round of the Annika Intercollegiate tomorrow morning, starting with an 8:00 a.m. CT shotgun start.
