Greensville, S.C. – The Gopher women's golf team has finished round two of the Lady Paladin Invitational. The team remains in 10th place heading into the third and final round. Freshman Luisamariana Mesones put together her best round of her young collegiate career, ending the day with a score of two-under par (70).
Old Dominion and Furman are tied for 1st place in the tournament, both with a team score of six-over par (582).
Quotable:
"We saw glimpses today of just how talented this team is, unfortunately again we let a good round slip away coming in," said coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "Until we sort out the process of 'finishing' rounds we will struggle to be competitive. We've had individual success, and Mariana's round today was fantastic. I'm confident we can start to piece it together and compete as a TEAM."
Notable:
Mesones accumulated four birdies in round two, then was at par from holes 14 through 18 to secure a tie for 13th place heading into the last round.
Following a great first round, senior Grace Curran tallied another pair of birdies and completed the round with a score of four-over par (76). She will enter the third round of competition in a tie for 20th.
Isabella McCauley registered three birdies today on her path to a score of two-over par (74). She heads into the final round of her second collegiate tournament in a tie for 34th.
Senior Leah Herzog logged one birdie and a score of five-over par (77) on the second day of the Lady Paladin Invitational. She will open the final day of the event in a tie for 72nd place.
Fellow senior Emma Carpenter wrapped up the second round by going even on 8 holes in the back-9, helping guide her to a score of seven-over par (79). She is currently tied for 91st.
