Maroon and Gold Take First Place in the MacDonald Cup

New Haven, Conn. – The Gopher men's golf team earned a 1st place finish in the MacDonald Cup with a three round score of 361-340-351—1052. The Gophers elevated themselves to the top of the leaderboard with a fantastic second round team performance, completing the round with a score of ten-under par (340). In the third and final round, the team closed out the event with a score of one-over par (351).

Quotable:
"Proud of how our team came out and competed today. We were hit with some major adversity all morning and then we finished off our rounds really well," said coach Justin Smith. "Can't say enough about the resilience of our team this week. Always great to get a W!"

Notable:
After registering a score of three-under par (67) in the second round, Ben Warian replicated that performance by scoring three-under par (67) in the final round of the tournament. He collected six birdies in the final round, resulting in a three-round score of 72-67-67—206. His excellent performance led him to a tie for 3rd place in the MacDonald Cup.
 
Jacob Pedersen secured four birdies on his path to concluding the tournament with a three-round score of 73-68-70—211. He wrapped up the event in a tie for 13th place.
 
Lincoln Johnson also tied for 13th place and logged three birdies during the third round. He closed out the event with a three-round score of 70-67-74—211.
 
Freshman Jack Wetzel tallied four of his five birdies in round three from holes 14 through 18, guiding him to a three-round score of 77-66-70—213. He tied for 20th in his second collegiate event.
 
Connor Glynn capped off the MacDonald Cup with three birdies in the last round. He ended with a three-round score of 69-72-73—214, pushing him to a tie for 22nd.

Antoine Sale posted two birdies in the third round and recorded a three-round score of 79-74-71—224, tying for 53rd in the MacDonald Cup.

The Maroon and Gold will make the trip to River Hills, Wis. for the first round of the Marquette Collegiate on Oct. 2.
