Gophers Set for Action this Weekend

The University of Minnesota men's and women's cross country teams are in full action Friday, Sept. 30. The Maroon & Gold will split up as the men's team heads to UW-Eau Claire for the Blugold Invitational while the women's team will head to both the Blugold Invitational and the Missouri Preview in Columbia, Mo., which is where the NCAA Midwest Regionals will take place in November.
ABOUT THE GANS CREEK CLASSIC
A selected group of Minnesota women will race at the Gans Creek Classic, at 9:45 a.m., as a part of the D1 race. The Gophers are one of 27 entries competing in the event. In all, four races will occur. The men's race kicks off the event at 9 a.m., followed by the women's race at 9:45 a.m., the men's open race at 10:30 a.m., and the women's open race at 11:15 a.m. Gans Creek Classic Information is located HERE as well as final results.
ABOUT THE BLUGOLD INVITE
Nearly 30 schools will be represented at the Blugold Invite in Eau Claire, Wis., all regionally based. The women's 6K race will begin at 4:15 p.m., followed by the men's 8K race at 5:15 p.m. Results will be posted near the finish line and available online at blugolds.com and wayzataresults.com. The women's team competed in the event last year as well, where the split squad finished seventh with 206 points. Fans can follow Blugold Results HERE.
GOPHERS IN THE RANKINGS
The Minnesota women receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA national rankings, announced Monday, Sept. 27. In the regional rankings the women's squad sits at No. 5 in the Midwest Region. The men's team sits at No. 11 in the Midwest Regional rankings.
ON THE DOCKET
Following Friday's events, Minnesota will be back in action Oct. 14 at the annual Nuttycomb Invitational in Madison, Wis. The highlight of the event is an 8-kilometer men's race and a 6-kilometer women's race. The event also includes "B" races for both men and women. All races will be held on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course, located adjacent to University Ridge Golf Course in Madison.
