Maroon and Gold Travel to Utah For First Road Meet of 2023

MINNEAPOLIS -- Following their victory at the Best of Minnesota meet, the Minnesota women's gymnastics team will head to West Valley, Utah to compete in the Wasatch Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 4 p.m. CT.
The meet will be streamed for free on Sporfie (link above), beginning at 3:45 p.m. CT. Live stats can also be viewed at the link above and tickets can be purchased for admission to the Maverik Center for $15 using the link above.
Last Time Out
The Maroon and Gold started their 2023 season on Jan. 6 with victories over Hamline, Gustavus Adolphus and Winona State at the Best of Minnesota quad-meet at Maturi Pavilion. Senior Halle Remlinger tied her career-high score on floor by posting a 9.950 on Friday night. Juniors Mya Hooten and Gianna Gerdes competed as all-around competitors for the first time in their collegiate careers, with Hooten scoring 38.750 and Gerdes scoring 39.025.
Gophers in the Rankings
After the first meet of the season, the Gophers rank No. 19 in the nation, according to RoadToNationals. Minnesota ranks No. 11 on vault, No. 22 on bars, No. 27 on beam and No. 19 on floor.
Remlinger is tied for first in the rankings on floor (9.950), while Hooten ranks fourth on vault (9.925) and No. 17 on floor (9.900).
Scouting UCLA, Boise State and Washington
For the second season in a row, the Gophers will compete against Olympic silver medalist Jordan Chiles and the UCLA Bruins. In the Bruins' first meet, Chiles finished with a 39.650 in the all-around which includes 9.900s on vault and floor and a 9.975 on vault. Freshman Selena Harris recorded a 39.500 in the all-around, posting scores of 9.900 on vault, bars and floor. UCLA started the year ranked No. 10 in the WCGA Preseason poll.
Boise State will make their season debut at the Maverik Center on Saturday, having not competed last weekend. The Gophers finished just one spot ahead of the Broncos in the second round of NCAA Regionals last season, a new program-record NCAA Regional score of 196.425 for the Broncos. Boise State enters the 2023 season after finishing No. 24 in the RoadToNationals rankings last season. The Broncos finished 2022 ranked No. 7 in the nation on beam, according to the same RoadToNationals ranking.
Washington heads to the Wasatch Classic after claiming victory over Fisk University and the University of North Carolina in the Super 16 on Jan. 6. The Huskies have 11 returners from the 2022 NCAA Regionals squad and bring in seven newcomers (six freshmen). Washington was ranked No. 21 in the WCGA Preseason Poll ahead of their matchup at the Super 16, and now rank No. 25 after one event. At the competition, the Huskies posted their highest season-opening score since 2004.
