Bennett Takes Home Big Ten Diver, Freshman of the Week Honors

MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota freshman Drew Bennett has been named the Big Ten's Diver and Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
Bennett represented the Golden Gophers at last week's Georgia Diving Invitational.
He was eighth through the platform prelims Thursday and stayed there in the finals as he recorded a 299.15. In the opening event Tuesday, Bennett posted an 11th-place finish in the 1-meter finals with his score of 249.15. In the prelims, he grabbed the last qualifying spot as his score of 274.75 was good for 12th.
Bennett ended the 3-meter prelims Wednesday in 15th place with his score of 305.85.
This is the second time that Bennett has been named the Big Ten Diver of the Week, also doing so on Dec. 7 after winning two of three events at the Minnesota Invite, while it's his first Freshman of the Week accolades.
Bennett is the first Minnesota men's diver to be named Freshman of the Week since the honor was established in 2011-12, and he's the first Gopher to be named Men's Diver of the Week twice in the same season since Matt Barnard in the 2016-17 season.
The Gopher women and men return to competition Thursday with a dual meet at the University of Tampa at noon CT.
