Minnesota Signs Emma Belluomini to 2023-24 Class

Head coach Catrina Thompson solidified the addition of Emma Belluomini to the 2023-24 Maroon and Gold roster.

Minneapolis – University of Minnesota head tennis coach, Catrina Thompson, has announced the addition of Emma Belluomini to the 2023-24 singing class. The incoming freshman will join the Golden Gophers after graduating from E.Fermi Public Scientific Sports High School in Lucca, Italy. 

"I chose the University of Minnesota because I think that it would be the best choice for both my tennis and academic career," said Belluomini. "I believe that the University of Minnesota will give me a lot of opportunities in the following years and will help me find a balance between tennis and school."

Belluomini's athletic career began at the age of 5 at the Lucca tennis club with coach Ivano Pieri. Belluomini trained under Pieri until July of 2018, before beginning her training with Matteo Marrai, a former pro Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) circuit player at the Tennis Italia club in Forte dei Marmi.

In 2022, she competed in two ITF Junior tournaments in France and Germany where she secured her first ITF Junior title in doubles, she won her first OPEN in Livorno, and contributed to the Serie A1 – the top professional team competition held in Italy.  

Throughout her high school career, Belluomini competed in ITF Junior tournaments at the San Marino Open J5 and J5 in Cuneo (2021), participated in the TC Italia team in the top Italian division (2021), participated in the A1 series with the TC Italia team (2020), and debuted in the professional team championship of Series B by winning her singles match, bringing the decisive point for the victory and conquering the promotion into first league TC Italia (2019).

In continuation of her high school career, in 2019 she had taken part in two ITF tournaments in Iceland where she conquered the first points that allowed her to enter the ITF U18 World Ranking and two ITF tournaments in Italy. She entered a professional tournament in Egypt where she won her first points in the pro circuit occupying position N1613 in the rankings world championships, and participated in three U16 tournaments in Italy with one being the Avvenire tournament – a prestigious event.

At the completion of 2022, Belluomini reached the national ranking of 2.4.

Throughout her adolescent years she qualified for the Lemon Bowl – a notable tournament for rising tennis players in Italy.

Off the court the Italian native enjoys listening to music, cooking, and running, in addition to a hobby of fashion. 

Emma is the daughter of father Claudio Belluomini and mother Sabrina Noeferini, while having one brother, Giulio Belluomini.
