Johnson Named Big Ten Freshman of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota freshman Seria Johnson earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after her impressive performance on Saturday at the Wasatch Classic against UCLA, Washington and Boise State, the Big Ten announced Wednesday.
The Woodstock, Ga. native finished the meet with an all-around score of 39.350 in her first all-around performance. In her very first collegiate appearance on floor, she recorded a score of 9.900, placing her in a tie for sixth place just behind Olympic Medalist Jordan Chiles of UCLA.
Johnson recorded scores of 9.825 on vault, 9.750 on bars and 9.875 on beam in addition to her 9.900 on floor on her way to becoming the first Gopher to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week since Mya Hooten in 2021.
Johnson and the Maroon and Gold will compete against Penn State on Saturday, Jan. 21 at Maturi Pavilion at 4 p.m. CT.
