First weekly award of his career
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Thanks to a four-point weekend on the road, Golden Gophers men's hockey forward Brody Lamb earned Big Ten Conference Second Star of the Week accolades as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Lamb put together an impressive trip, leading Minnesota to a series victory over the No. 8/9 Wolverines as he totaled four points in the two games. The sophomore recorded the first three-point performance of his career Friday night with a goal and two assists, including the game winner with 3:28 remaining in regulation to complete the comeback win against Michigan. With the Maroon and Gold facing a two-goal deficit late in the middle frame, Lamb assisted on both Jimmy Clark goals to help pull the visitors level before scoring the late winner.
A native of Byron, Minn., Lamb followed that effort by adding a power-play goal Saturday, his first goal on a man advantage this year, that tied the game during the second period. He has already surpassed his point total from a season ago when he finished with four goals and four assists for eight points as a freshman. He currently leads the Gophers with 10 points in 10 games this season and has a pair of game-winning goals.
Lamb is the fourth Gopher to pick up a weekly award from the Big Ten this year, joining Jimmy Snuggerud (Oct. 17), Justen Close (Oct. 24), and Rhett Pitlick (Nov. 7) as the honorees representing the Maroon and Gold.
