MINNEAPOLIS -- University of Minnesota redshirt junior Abbey Murphy has been named WCHA Forward of the Week after scoring three goals and adding one assist in Minnesota's weekend games against Harvard and Cornell, the conference announced Monday.
Murphy earns a WCHA weekly award for the second time this season and fourth of her career. The Evergreen Park, Ill. native scored once in the Gophers' 3-1 win against Harvard on Friday, Nov. 24, while also assisting fellow junior Ella Huber on the first goal of the game. Murphy arrives back in Minneapolis with career goal No. 50 in her luggage, as her powerplay goal in the third period of Friday's game notched the scoring milestone. The 2022 Olympian was just getting started for the weekend, as she followed up Friday's performance with a dominant two-goal effort to lead the Maroon and Gold to a 5-1 victory against Big Red on Saturday.Â
Minnesota (11-2-0) will host Bemidji State (1-12-1) on Friday, Dec. 1 and Saturday, Dec. 2 for a conference clash with the Beavers. Puck drops are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. CT on Friday and 2:00 p.m. CT on Saturday. Both games will be streamed on B1G+.Â
