STARTING FIVE
• The University of Minnesota men's basketball team holds its last game in over a week as Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) comes to town Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  It marks the first meeting between the two schools and the first Horizon League opponent Minnesota has faced since Ben Johnson's first year as head coach in 2021-22. The Gophers went 2-0 that year against Horizon League teams as they faced both Purdue Fort Wayne and Green Bay that season.
Elijah Hawkins continues to be the Gopher floor general establishing back-to-back games with double-digit assists. Hawkins had a double-double in the Nebraska win when he scored 12 points and dished out 11 assists. He followed that performance with 11 assists in the Florida Gulf Coast game Saturday. Hawkins is the first Gopher to record back-to-back double-digit assists since Isaiah Washington accomplished the feat Dec. 11 and Dec. 21, 2018 vs. North Florida and North Carolina A&T (13 and 10 respectively). Overall, Minnesota ranks third in the Big Ten in assists per game and 33rd nationally, while Hawkins ranks first in the Big Ten and 12th in the nation in both assists and assists per game.
•  Minnesota continues to show its depth winning the bench-point advantage in nine of 10 games this year.  The Gophers held a 35-18 advantage against FGCU with Mike Mitchell and Isaiah Ihnen coming off the bench and producing double-digit points. Minnesota's highest bench-point production came in a 62-20 advantage during Minnesota's nonconference game against New Orleans. The only game where the opponent scored more bench points was against Missouri in a 26-20 Tiger advantage. Minnesota ranks second in the Big Ten in this category and 68th in the nation.
•  Minnesota ranks high nationally and in the Big Ten in a couple categories in addition to bench points and assists. Minnesota also averages 5.5 blocks per game, which ranks third in the B1G and 51st nationally. Pharrel Payne has 14 this season, while Dawson Garcia follows with 11. Minnesota ranks second in scoring defense and first in the league in turnovers forced.
LAST GAME RECAP
Joshua Ola-Joseph led short-handed Minnesota (7-3), tying his career-high with 17 points, and the Gophers used a 16-1 second-half run to pull away from Florida Gulf Coast (3-8) for a 77-57 Saturday victory at Williams Arena. Ola-Joseph made 5-of-9 field goals, including a career-best 3-of-4 from three-point range, and was 4-of-4 at the free throw line. He added four rebounds and an assist in 27 minutes.
• Minnesota had four players reach double-figures in the win. Mike Mitchell Jr. came off the bench for 14 points, five assists, and four rebounds, Isaiah Ihnen finished with 13 points and five boards, Cam Christie added 11 points and six rebounds, and Elijah Hawkins just missed a second straight point-assist double-double with eight points and 11 assists.
• The Gophers made 31-of-68 (.456) field goals, including 10-of-28 (.357) treys, and were 5-of-5 at the line. Minnesota had a 38-32 rebounding advantage and was credited with 23 assists on 31 made field goals.
