Dawson Garcia led all players with a career-high 36 points and added 11 rebounds for his second double-double this season, helping Minnesota (5-3, 0-1) cut Ohio State's 22-point lead to just six points with 3:24 remaining, but the Buckeyes (7-1, 1-0) held on for an 84-74 win in the Big Ten-opener for both teams.

Garcia's 36-point game marks the most points scored by a Big Ten player this season, topping the 35-point efforts by MSU's Tyson Walker versus JMU and Purdue's Zach Edey at Northwestern. Garcia made a career-high 12-of-25 field goals and was 12-of-14 at the free throw line, with 28 points coming in the second half. It's his seventh career double-double, and his fifth at Minnesota. He also reached 500 career rebounds during tonight's game.
Ā
Cam Christie made 5-of-8 field goals to finish with 11 points, and Elijah Hawkins added 10 points, five assists, and three steals for the Gophers, who opened Big Ten play with a road game for the fifth time in the past six years. Minnesota was outrebounded, 34-30, but the Gophers had a 36-28 edge in points in the paint. The Gophers made 28-of-58 (.483) field goals, but just 4-of-14 (.286) from three-point range, and 14-of-20 (.700) at the line.

Minnesota continues Big Ten Conference action when it plays host to Nebraska on Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 8:00 p.m. CDT on Big Ten Network.
