The event is set for July 5-7 at the Lahinch Golf Club
MINNEAPOLIS - Rhyll Brinsmead, head coach of the Gopher women's golf team, has been named Co-Head coach of Team International for the 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup. Brinsmead served as an assistant coach in 2023, and will now join fellow co-head coach Barry Fennelly at the Lahinch Golf Club, in Lahinch, Ireland this coming July.
Team International will feature 24 of the nation's top collegiate golfers, 12 of which will be women, and the other 12 men. Brinsmead will serve as a leader for the team, helping them in their effort to take back the trophy as the United States was victorious in 2023.
This selection comes after an impressive fall season, where Brinsmead led the team to three top-ten finishes in four tournaments, including a second place finish at the Leadership & Golf Invitational. Brinsmead also saw her 2022 recruit, Isabella McCauley, earn her first career tournament win at the Boilermaker Classic.
Now in her third year with Minnesota, Brinsmead has guided the team to 15 top ten finishes, the two lowest 18-hole scores in school history and the lowest 54 hole round in school history. She also has seen two individuals, Mesones and McCauley, play in the NCAA Regionals. The latter advanced to play in the NCAA Championship, becoming the first Gopher to do so since 2017.
