The Golden Gophers picked up a win over Portland State, and fall to Colgate

GAME ONE
LEESBURG, Fla. -
Freshman Jess Oakland collected four RBIs to help power the Minnesota Golden Gophers over the Portland State Vikings 8-1 on Saturday.

Senior Autumn Pease (2-0) got the win for Minnesota (3-0). The right-hander went six shutout innings, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out seven.

Oakland went 2-for-5 with two doubles in addition to her four RBIs for the Golden Gophers. Sophomore Taylor Krapf put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Graduate Amani Bradley also helped out for Minnesota, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Minnesota got on the board thanks to Oakland's RBI double.

The Maroon and Gold then held the Vikings scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. The Minnesota offense exploded for five runs, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Oakland and a two-run home run from Krapf, which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Golden Gophers.

Minnesota kept Portland State scoreless before building their lead to 8-0 the following inning. The Gophers scored twice, with one run coming across on Bradley's single. Portland State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Minnesota still coasted to the 8-1 win.

GAME TWO

Freshman Jess Oakland homered and drove in two, but it was not enough to push the Gophers over the top in their 4-3 loss to the Colgate Raiders on Saturday.

Senior Bri Enter (0-1) took the loss in the circle for Minnesota (3-1, ). The right-hander went 1.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing no walks and striking out one.

Oakland led the way offensively for the Gophers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBI. Graduate Natalie DenHartog provided a standout effort as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gophers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Minnesota got on the board thanks to DenHartog's RBI double.

The Raiders then tied the ballgame at one before the Golden Gophers came back to reclaim their advantage in the third inning. Minnesota scored twice on Oakland's two-run homer, which brought the Maroon and Gold lead to 3-1. The Gophers were unable to hold the lead, as Colgate scored three times over the remaining four innings to grab the 4-3 win.
