Gerdes Named Big Ten Co-Gymnast of the Week After Career Outing at Maryland

MINNEAPOLIS – University of Minnesota junior Gianna Gerdes has earned her first Big Ten weekly award, the conference announced Tuesday. The Delaware, Ohio native was named Co-Gymnast of the Week with Maryland's Emma Silberman.
Gerdes' night was highlighted by her career-high performance on floor, in which she earned a career-best score of 9.950, tying her for the event title. Not only did she set a career high on floor, but Gerdes tied her personal best on vault by scoring a 9.875. She competed as an all-around once again on Sunday against the Terrapins, marking the seventh time she's competed in all four events this season.
The junior powered the Gophers to a road conference victory, as the Maroon and Gold topped Maryland by a score of 196.800 to 196.650.
Gerdes and the Gophers will travel to Lincoln, Neb. for the Big Five meet this weekend, during which Minnesota will compete in the second session – Saturday, Feb. 25 at 12 p.m. CT – against Michigan State, Ohio State, Rutgers and Nebraska.
