No. 13/12 Ohio State Downs Gophers in Columbus

MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 8, 2023) – The University of Minnesota (9-15, 2-11 B1G) women's basketball team dropped a 93-63 decision to No. 13/12 Ohio State (21-4, 10-4 B1G) on Wednesday night in Columbus at the Schottenstein Center.Â
Freshman guard Mara Braun led the way with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting while hitting three triples for the third game in a row. Fellow freshmen Mallory Heyer and Amaya Battle both added eight while sophomore forward Alanna 'Rose' Micheaux registered eight points and four rebounds.Â
Ohio State jumped on the Golden Gophers early, scoring 21 of the gam'es first 25 points to lead 21-4 with 3:19 remaining in the opening quarter. Minnesota got the lead down to 23-10 after the first 10 minutes of play.Â
The Buckeyes out scored Minnesota by six in the second quarter with two separate 6-0 runs. Braun got going in the second with a pair of threes and finished with 12 first half points. Battle also was efficient in the quarter on the offensive end scoring six of her eight first half points.Â
Ohio State kept their foot on the gas with a 28-point third quarter to extend their lead while allowing 14 Minnesota points. The Gophers were able to close the contest by out scoring the Buckeyes 16-13 in the final quarter.Â
As a team Minnesota shot 23-of-57 (40.4 percent) from the floor and hit 13-of-14 from the free throw line while out rebounding the Buckeyes 36-29.Â
The University of Minnesota returns for a border battle matchup with Wisconsin on Feb. 11. The matchup with the Badgers is scheduled for a 3 p.m. tip on B1G+.Â
