Minnesota will face Wisconsin in its first NCAA Frozen Four game since 2019.

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 2 Gopher Women's hockey team advanced to its first NCAA Frozen Four since 2019 with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA regional semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena.

After a scoreless first period, it was Minnesota (30-5-3) who got on the board first. Senior defender Madeline Wethington went coast-to-coast to open the second period for her fifth goal of the year. Early in the third, the Gophers added to the lead behind a highlight-reel goal from Abbey Murphy – her 29th of the year. Later in the period, Catie Skaja scored on a breakaway from a Madeline Wethington stretch pass to add the final insurance tally.

Skylar Vetter stopped all 30 shots for her seventh shutout of the season. UMD's Emma Soderberg made 27 saves in the defeat.

Quotable
"I'm just really thrilled for our team," said head coach Brad Frost. "They were able to get back to the Frozen Four, it had been a while. We're just so happy for them because this is an amazing opportunity. It wasn't easy today and it was a great game against Duluth.

"I said this last weekend, but you have to do extraordinary things to get to the Frozen Four. You have to block shots, make plays, get saves and do all of the little things to give you the best chance to win over that 60-minute span."
