'U' Receives No. 2 Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament

Minnesota will face the winner of Minnesota Duluth and Clarkson on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 pm CT at Ridder Arena.
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher women's hockey team received the No. 2 overall seed in the 2023 NCAA Tournament. Minnesota will face the winner of Minnesota Duluth and Clarkson after the NCAA unveiled the 11-team bracket for the 2023 National Collegiate Women's Ice Hockey Championship on Sunday morning.Â

Minnesota Duluth and Clarkson will play on Thursday evening at Ridder Arena with the winner facing Minnesota on Saturday at 2:00 pm CT.Â

After defeating top-seeded Ohio State in the WCHA Final Faceoff title game, Minnesota is making its 20th overall appearance in the NCAA postseason. The 2023 WCHA Tournament champion Gophers have won seven national championships with only three missed NCAA tournaments in 23 years.

Colgate (ECAC Hockey), LIU (NEWHA), Minnesota (WCHA), Northeastern (Hockey East), and Penn State (CHA) earned the five automatic bids by winning their respective conference tournaments while Ohio State, Yale, Wisconsin, Minnesota Duluth, Quinnipiac, and Clarkson earned at-large bids.

No. 1 Ohio State (31-5-2) hosts Quinnipiac (29-9-0) and Penn State (27-8-2)
No. 2 Minnesota (29-5-3) hosts Minnesota Duluth (25-9-3) and Clarkson (29-10-2)
No. 3 Colgate (32-5-2) hosts Wisconsin (25-10-2) and LIU (20-13-3)
No. 4 seed Yale (28-3-1) hosts No. 5 Northeastern (33-2-1)

Quarterfinal competition will take place on the campuses of the four host institutions with the winners advancing to the 2023 Women's Frozen Four on Friday, March 17 and Sunday, March 19 at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minn.
