Five Gophers are Golden at 2023 Women's Worlds

Sophomore forward Abbey Murphy scored in a 6-3 United States victory over Canada on Sunday evening.

BRAMPTON, Ontario – Five players with Golden Gopher women's hockey ties took home gold at the 2023 Women's World Championships in Brampton, Ontario on Sunday night after a 6-3 win over rival Canada. Fifth-year forward Taylor Heise led all Minnesota representatives in scoring with 12 points (1g-11a) in seven games.  

Current Gophers Taylor Heise and Abbey Murphy each earned their first gold medals with the U.S. senior national team with alumnae Amanda Kessel (4x), Kelly Pannek (3x) and Lee Stecklein (6x) each adding to their gold-medal collections. Freshman defender Nelli Laitinen (Finland), freshman forward Josefin Bouveng (Sweden) and incoming freshman Emma Kreisz (Hungary) each finished fifth, sixth and ninth respectively.

-    USA wins gold at women's worlds for the first time since 2019
