Three first team selections, one second and third team selection
LOUISVILLE – The University of Minnesota softball team had five student-athletes named to the 2023 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division I All-Region Teams, announced Thursday. Autumn Pease, Taylor Krapf, and Natalie DenHartog were first team selections while Jess Oakland received second team nods and Kayla Chavez was named to the third team.
Pease picked up First Team All-Region accolades following an impressive run in her fifth year season with the Maroon and Gold. This is the second all-region accolade for the 2023 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year. The senior is 26-7 with a 1.45 ERA and 256 strikeouts. She had a 12-game win streak through the Big Ten Tournament. Nationally, she is sixth overall in strikeouts, fifth overall in wins, and 24th in ERA.
An All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection, Krapf is batting .354 with 14 home runs, has 47 RBI, is slugging .707, with a .456 on base percentage, all categories she leads the Golden Gophers in. This is the first time the sophomore has been recognized nationally by the NFCA.
This is the fourth NFCA All-Region honor that DenHartog has received in her career donning the Maroon and Gold. The graduate has remained in the cleanup spot all season long. The center fielder is batting .314 with 12 home runs, 35 RBI, and 40 runs scored.
Freshman Jess Oakland continues to make a name for herself, picking up her third postseason honor and first NFCA All-Region award. The shortstop is the only Gopher freshman to start all 54 games this season. The San Jose, Calif., native is batting .327, with 13 home runs, 44 RBI, and a .624 slugging percentage.
Chavez, an All-Big Ten Conference First Team selection this season, paces the Gophers with 14 doubles, driving in 33 runs with 63 hits on the season. The sophomore needs one more hit to reach a career 100 hits. Notably, the third baseman has hit two walk-off home runs this season against Central Michigan on March 10th and Penn State on March 31st.
