Warian to Represent Gophers in NCAA Regional

MINNEAPOLIS - Minnesota junior Ben Warian has been selected to represent the Gophers as an individual in the 2023 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, it was announced Wednesday.
A native of Stillwater, Minn., Warian garnered the No. 2 seed among individuals in the Bath Regional which will be held at Eagle Eye Golf Club in Bath, Mich., May 15-17.
Regionals will consist of 81 teams and 45 individuals competing have been selected to compete at one of six 54-hole regional championship sites which will take place. The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Team and individual medalist titles will then be decided May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Named to the All-Big Ten Second Team and a member of the Big Ten Championship Second Team, Warian had three top- five finishes this season, including a tie for second place at the Colleton River Collegiate, a tie for third place at the MacDonald Cup and a tie for fifth at the Big Ten Championships in September.
In his 10 stroke play events this season, Warian led the team in scoring average (71.69), rounds under par (16), score to par (-10), 54- hole score (208), and low round of 18 (65).
This will be Warian's first appearance in the NCAA Regionals tournament. It will also be the first time a member of the Gophers has made a regional appearance since Angus Flanagan did so in 2021.
With Warian's selection to the Bath Regional, this now marks 28 of the past 31 years a Gopher has made an appearance in the NCAA Regionals.
