'U' Falls Short in 4-1 Loss to Michigan

Minnesota is back in action next weekend at Maryland
MINNEAPOLIS --The Minnesota Golden Gophers fell 4-1 to the Michigan Wolverines on Sunday in the series finale. Despite the loss, the Gophers (14-31, 7-11 Big Ten) clinched the series victory on Saturday. The 'U' won 4-0 on Friday and 4-2 on Saturday.
Redshirt senior Richie Holetz (2-5) took the loss for Minnesota. In 6.0 innings of work, he struck out four while giving up six hits and four runs. He registered four consecutive scoreless innings to finish his outing after giving up three in the first and one in the second.
In the batter's box, the Golden Gophers were led by redshirt junior Kyle Bork, who went 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Sophomore Jake Larson delivered a pinch hit RBI triple to score the Gophers' run in the seventh.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Michigan scored three in the top of the first on a three-run home run from Joey Valaquez. They added another in the second on a two-out RBI single from Cody Jefferis.
Offensively, the Gophers had just four hits and two runners reached scoring position in the first six innings. In the seventh, the 'U' got on the board with an RBI triple from Jake Larson that scored Kyle Bork.
The Gophers could not cut the deficit any closer, falling 4-1.
