Emma Carpenter Receives Lisa Byington Award

The Big Ten Network announced that Emma Carpenter, a University of Minnesota Women's Golf team member, has been presented with the Lisa Byington Award. This honor is given annually to the most outstanding female broadcaster in the Big Ten Network StudentU program. As the winner of the award, Carpenter will be given the opportunity to work in Chicago at the Big Ten Network's studios and create a demo reel.
Emma Carpenter started as a student assistant with Gopher Digital Productions in the Fall of 2021. With GDP she has worked in various roles including graphics, camera, replay, directing, play-by-play, color commentating, and sideline reporting. Carpenter began sideline reporting for B1G+ on April 2nd, 2022, for a University of Minnesota Softball game. Since then, Carpenter has worked at nearly 40 sporting events including soccer, volleyball, women's hockey, men's and women's basketball, softball, and baseball all the while competing as an athlete on the women's golf team. In addition, Carpenter also works with GDP as a peer leader, where she trains fellow students in commentating and sideline reporting.
