Snippes is the seventh Golden Gopher to be honored as Ms. Softball

MINNEAPOLIS - Incoming University of Minnesota softball student-athlete, Jessa Snippes, was honored as being the top softball player in the state as she was named 2023 PlayBall! Minnesota Ms. Softball on Sunday.

The Rosemount, Minn., native will begin her collegiate career in the fall following a decorated prep career at Rosemount High School. She was also named the Gatorade Minnesota Softball Player of the Year and Star Tribune Metro Player of the Year earlier this month.

"Congratulations to Jessa on winning Ms. Softball," said head coach Piper Ritter. "Jessa is a fiery competitor on the mound and in the box. We look forward to her representing her state in the Maroon and Gold next year."

Snippes is the seventh winner of the award to join the Maroon and Gold along with Sydney Schwartz (2022), Emily Hansen (2018), Katelyn Kemmetmueller (2016), Erika Rozell (2014), Nikki Anderson (2012), and Sara Moulton (2010).

Play Ball! Minnesota is an initiative of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund; it was organized in 2004 in collaboration with Minnesota youth baseball and softball organizations to promote and improve the sports in the Upper Midwest.

In 2010, the Minnesota Minute Men and Play Ball! Minnesota began honoring the top Minnesota high school senior athlete in baseball and softball. Originally called the Mr. Baseball and Ms. Softball Award, the award was re-named the Play Ball! Minnesota Mr. Baseball and Ms. Softball Award in 2012 to recognize the support from Play Ball! Minnesota.
